Our Mission
We, the members of El Shaddai Baptist Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit of God do hereby set forth the objectives of this body.
1. To worship God as a unified fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ (Luke 4:8; John 4:24; Ephesians 4:2-3).
2. To proclaim in Philadelphia and throughout the world the forgiveness of sins for everyone through Jesus Christ’s redemptive work (Luke 24:46-48; John 3:16; Acts 4:12).
3. To minister unselfishly to the needs of the members of the body (the church) and the people of our community (Galatians 6:10).
4. To Equip the membership and other believers to grow in faith toward Christian maturity according to the teaching of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 4:12; 1 John 2:3-6).
Our Covenant
The obligation of church membership outlined in the covenant are all scriptural. It is a voluntary agreement by the members of the body of Christ to conduct their lives in such a way as to glorify God and to promote the ministry of His church. Every member should study it carefully, refer to it often, and seek to live by it.
I. Salvation and Baptism (John 1:11-12; Matt. 28:19-20)
II. Duties to the Church
a. To walk together in Christian love (Jn. 13:34-35)
b. To strive for the advancement of the church and to promote its prosperity and spirituality (Phil. 1:27; 2 Tim. 2:15; 2 Cor. 7:1; 2 Pet. 3:11).
c. To sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrine (Heb. 10:25; Matt. 28:19; 1 Cor. 11:23-26; Jude 3).
d. To give it pre-eminence in my life (Matt. 6:33).
e. To contribute cheerfully and regularly (1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor. 8:6-7)
f. To carry my membership when I move and be active in church work wherever I live (Acts 11:19-21; 18:24-28).
III. Duties in Personal Christian Living
a. To maintain family and secret devotions (1 Thess. 5:17-18; Acts 17:11).
b. To religiously educate our children (2 Tim. 3:15; Deut. 6:4-7).
c. To seek the salvation of the lost (Acts 1:8; Matt. 4:19; Psa. 126:5-6; Prov. 11:30).
d. To walk circumspectly in the world, and to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment (Eph. 5:15; Phil. 2:14-15; 1 Pet. 2:11-12).
e. To avoid gossip and excessive anger (Eph. 4:31; 1 Pet. 2:21; Col. 3:8; Jas. 3:102).
f. To abstain from sale or use of liquors (Eph. 5:18; Hab. 2:15).
g. To be zealous in our efforts for Christ (Titus 2:14).
Our Beliefs
As a Biblical Centered congregation, we express our persuasion in the following formal declarations, which this assembly teaches:
One God revealed to mankind in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
The verbal plenary inspiration of the sixty-six books of the bible, infallible revelation of God[VM1].
The deity of Jesus Christ: His virgin birth, His sinless humanity, His physical death as our substitute for sin, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to heaven, and His personal coming again.
The salvation of mankind by faith in Christ alone, without works, and solely by grace. This is affirmed by the power of Christ’s blood to cleanse from sin “all who come to God by Him.”
The need of works after salvation to express gratitude and to “prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
The resurrection of the church body; the eternal glorified state of believers in Heaven, and the eternal punishment in Hell of all who reject Christ.
The one true Church, the Body of Christ, consisting of all believers, regardless of color, race, or standing, and the need of attending and supporting a Bible-believing local assembly.
The need for daily growth in grace through Bible study, prayer, and witnessing.
Obedience to the solemn command of Christ to evangelize all nations, and to teach believers the truth of the word of God.
The imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ to take His church to Himself and to establish His kingdom on the earth.
